games of the XX olympiad

we finally made it over to the olympic stadium, which is in olympic park, which is quite large, for a run on saturday. pretty cool to see this place in person and a bit overwhelming to think about the history and all that went down here in the summer of 1972....the massacre, Prefontaine, frank shorter winning the marathon (here's your boulder connection), the US loosing to the russians (sorry, the soviet union) in the gold medal game of basketball (perhaps the biggest crock in the history of sports), the banning of two US 400 meter runners (the gold and silver medal winners!!!) from the olympics for life for shenanigans on the medal stand, and on and on...the stadium itself is an architectural wonder with all the glass and metal rope and the view of the city is awesome as you can see the alps behind city center....on a clear day, which it wasn't on saturday but was on sunday when i ran back (only 6 minutes from our pad) over solo.anyway, enjoy the photos and here is one more of rider at the park afterwards....
